The schools do have a big part in shaping our children, but parents have an even bigger role. I also think that with taking these steps to better your child's life it will also help you realize what you can do for yourself to make sure that you will be here for your children as long as you can. So instead of going through the drive-through tonight or picking up the video game controller, have you children make a healthy dinner with you and go outside and take a little walk, cold or not it will make you and your child feel amazing.

Healthy Eating..
We are supposed to write this blog on another idea for our position papers, which I must say I'm really stressed out about. So the government is really trying to put in effect that schools offer healthier lunches and that there isn't vending machines full of junk food, which is GREAT! I myself wish they would have done this when I was in school instead of seeing mush even though it was supposed to be some sort of meat, it would have been healthy. I'm so happy that people are working towards this goal for schools; kids need to have a healthy food style. The problem is why is it that schools are forcing kids (in a good way) to eat healthy food and portray to them that healthy eating is good but you have parents who aren't doing the same thing at home. School is a big part of a child's life but let’s face the music now a child is going to take the habits that their parents do around them, they are around their parents so much more. Parent's aren't taking in to consideration that burger they just ate from McDonald’s isn't a good meal for them or their child. Why are parents trying to have schools serve healthier food, when they can't even do the good food habits a home? I think that parents MUST enforce the good eating at home just as much as they do in school, even more since kids take their parents action much more seriously. Along with this why is that kids are having physical education required of them now (which is also an excellent thing) but when the children get home their parents kind of push everything to the side and give them a remote controller or a video game to keep them busy. I find that parents really need to take control of their children's food intake and physical activity when home, pay attention more to the things they are putting into their mouths because in the long run you can save your child's life for their future.

Help from the government
I can’t figure out why the government hasn’t taken action against people who are taking complete advantage of the system. They could easily drug test people that are getting any type of financial assistance from them and more than likely get rid of over half the people that are getting help. The United States might not have such a financial debt if they would consider this. I know personally of people that get help like health (Medicaid), food stamps or even TANF (cash) and that sell their food stamps and give their card to people for actual money to get their extra-curricular activities. I personally am a single mother and have worked since the day I turned 18 and had a 5 year old at the age of 17, my senior year; there is no way I could ever make it without the help of the government and am thankful for it, but I wonder if they could give me more help if some people weren’t taking advantage of the system. I think if the government would think about it more and see that a lot of people, no not all people, but a lot are taking advantage of the system; and well the government is getting screwed royally just like people who need the system more in their favor. I believe also for the fathers that aren’t taking the full responsibility of being a parent and skipping out on their child support; that the government could take the money they save from giving assistance to the wrong people and use it more towards finding the fathers who are skipping out. I think that if the government would get a handle on the resources they are putting out; it might start getting ourselves out of debt.
I believe that the government can setup drug testing for everyone who is using their benefits. This way they will know for people who are just abusing their benefits they are offering and for people that aren't maybe can get more help in areas that they need it.

"Marriage-Plus"
Wow! That's all I can really even begin to say with article that I have "Marriage-Plus". I’m not really sure how I feel about this article. I myself have recently became a single parent also along with this was a teenage mother when I became pregnant. I agree that married couples with children have it a lot easier then single parents trying to make it on their own. I don’t think a marriage initiative is the way to keep families together; it’s almost like a bribe to stay with someone. When you’re with someone, I was with my daughter’s father for 7 years and you just try to make it work with the emotions that are flying through the house the child is more affected then when you’re doing it alone. I think marriage is an option to everyone; I think most people rush into it without thinking and just want to be like everyone around them. I won’t lie I want to get married just like all my friends are, but I also don’t want my marriage to end in divorce like my mother’s did. I seen how hard it was for her to struggle raising me on her own, my father never ever gave support or even wanted to see me. I myself find it crazy that people are getting married at so young of an age. I think that there wouldn’t be so many single parent houses maybe if there wasn’t an income tax break for those single parents. So people have children just so they can have more money at tax time, which those people don’t want to get married to their significant other, why would they want too?
I am lucky enough to have my daughter’s father in her life as much as possible, but with the times as rough as they are; he doesn’t have a job and isn’t giving me child support, but I don’t think that is affecting my daughter’s life because at least he is still involved. I don’t agree with the welfare benefits that are offered to families that are together. I know when Shane and I were together and he didn’t have a job but I did we had such a hard time making it, and yet the state still wouldn’t help us because we made to much money; how can you make to much money when you can’t live off the income that’s coming into the home. Now that I’m single I find it amusing that I can get all the help I can with just my daughter and myself, and I couldn’t previously just because there was one additional person in our family.
I think for people who want to get married there isn’t enough guidance out there to help them keep their marriage “alive” or even enough information out there to help them through a rough time. I think everyone who is wanting to get married should have to go through maybe a Catholic test (they have a class the couple must take together and a test and if they don’t pass the priest will not marry them).
